Deconstructing my career was one of the hardest things I've ever done, arguably as stressful than the process of becoming a physician in the first place. It was one thing to admit I'm fed up with aspects of my work...it's a far more daunting task to decide how to act constructively to make things better. I'm a student at York University. I attended your session on
"Swimming Out of the Sea of Career Uncertainty" during the Career Expo in
September. I enjoyed the session very much and what you said about planned
happenstance really made a lot of sense to me. What I enjoyed most from
the session was the insights it revealed about myself. Specifically, I like how
you demonstrated that our lives tell a story about what interests us. Since that
meeting, I have used my history as an indicator of potentially good career fits.
Your real-life examples of people who have built their careers were also very
interesting. It was good to see concrete examples of people and their stories to
support your concept of career serendipity. -F.T.
