A Conversation Café is a one-and-a-half hour hosted conversation, held in a public setting like a café, where anyone is welcome to join. A simple format helps people feel at ease and gives everyone who wants it a chance to speak. Mark uses the Conversation Café format in Who You Are Matters! and on Cuba Unveiled, and in 2003 he hosted a weekly Conversation Café on the Danforth in Toronto.

Bicycle Crossing Borders/Bicicletas Cruzando Fronteras is a social justice organization that takes donated used bikes from Canada and ships them to Cuba where they are refurbished in a workshop staffed by locally trained bike mechanics. Bikes are sold inexpensively to Cubans to help solve complex transportation problems, and rented to foreign tourists and travellers. Mark has supported this organization by using their services for Cuba Unveiled.
